Bogota, just a 10-minute walk from the famous Simon Bolivar Park, is home to the capital’s most famous amusement park, Salitre Magico.

It was inaugurated in 1973 and today the park offers a variety of attractions for all ages.

What can you do in the Salitre Magico Park?

The park has more than 30 attractions, some especially for children, others for families and of course for extreme lovers.

Attractions for children

There are age-appropriate lanes for children in the park. A variety of attractions can be found, such as the traditional carousel, a mini train that moves through the park, mini bumper cars, and a mini roller coaster known as the Gusano loco.

You can also accompany your child to these attractions and all of these attractions are included in the Nitro and Junior Pass.

Family attractions

These offers are designed so that you can have a good time with your family. One of the most iconic attractions is the Millennium Wheel, a 46-meter tall Ferris wheel. Once at the top you can enjoy a fantastic view of the city.

Another attraction worth mentioning is Splash, a fun water roller coaster. The Boeing B-727-200 aircraft is part of the cultural and learning opportunities and is used to learn how this aircraft works.

Also interesting is the Sea Monsters exhibition, with its robotic prehistoric sea creatures.

All passes are valid for the Sea Monsters attractions and the plane. For the other attractions, you have to buy a Nitro or Junior pass.

Extreme attractions

Without a doubt, these are considered the highlight of the park. Here you will find everything from the typical extreme roller coaster to attractions such as the pirate ship, which rotates 360 degrees at high speed.

Another extreme attraction is the Apocalypse, which rotates around its own axis at high speed. Of course, we also have to mention Centrox. It’s a huge circular platform that rotates at an incredible speed. If you’re dizzy, you’d better not ride these beasts.

Then there is the House of Horror. You enter the house as a group and experience a real horror performance. If it’s easy to scare you might be better off avoiding this attraction.

To visit these attractions you need a Nitro Pass.

Parque del Café

This park is located in Quindío, in the so-called Coffee Triangle, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You can find great attractions to enjoy with your family or friends.

The park was established in 1995. The theme of the park is dedicated to coffee. Therefore, most of the attractions are related to this.

What can you do in the Coffee Park?

There are cultural and mechanical attractions in the park.

Cultural attractions:

One of the main goals of the park is to show the importance of Colombian coffee. You will therefore find offers such as the Coffee Museum, which shows us the history of this national product in its 3 halls.

You can also witness the coffee show, where the history of coffee in Colombia is told with a dance performance.

It’s not all about coffee in the park, however. There is a lookout point from which you can see the whole park. There is also the opportunity to go horseback riding and even visit a native cemetery.

Mechanical attractions:

There are several roller coasters in this part of the amusement park. At YIPPE, the cars pay homage to coffee culture.

Another roller coaster worth mentioning is the crater. This attraction is considered to be one of the most extreme in Latin America. There is an increase of more than 30 meters and a drop where you descend at high speed and have to negotiate a multitude of turns.

There are also water attractions, e.g. the rapids with a 400-meter long descent or the bumper boats, a variant of bumper cars.

You can also find the classic attractions: bumper cars, cable cars and a “coffee train” that takes you through a beautiful landscape.

From Armenia, the capital of the department Quindio, it takes around 20 minutes.

Parque Norte

Parque Norte is just 5 minutes from the University of Antioquia and the Botanical Gardens and is one of the most famous entertainment spots in the city of Medellin.

The amusement park was inaugurated in 1974. It has been updated over the years and now offers more than 25 attractions.

What can you do in Parque Norte?

The park currently has 4 small squares that can be used to find a variety of activities.

Plazoleta Aventura: This area of ​​the park is where the innocent attractions can be found. There are fairground games, with typical video game simulation, shooting, etc. You can also find classics here, such as bumper cars and a slide called Polar.

Plazoleta Fantasia: This area has attractions for the little ones. For example Mini Crash (bumper cars for children), Morgan, a pirate ship that swings from side to side and Globos, a mini ferris wheel.

Those who want some time to relax can hop on the Iguana Train and enjoy a ride through the park.

Plazoleta Extrema: this area is dedicated to adrenaline lovers. There are 3 attractions here. One of them is the Kamikase, a train that rotates 360 degrees at high speed. Here you will also find the Maui, a train that rotates around its own axis at high speed. Finally, there is the “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, a water attraction where you descend at high speed.

Piscilago is without a doubt the most important water amusement park in the country. It was founded in 1984 and currently has more than 40 attractions and a zoo.

What to do in Piscilago

Thanks to the multitude of attractions, there are interesting offers for all age groups.

Water attractions:

There are various attractions in this park, some of which are intended for children. For example, you can find the children’s water park, where there are many mini slides surrounded by a swimming pool. Only people who are less than a meter tall are allowed to enter.

Families can spend a relaxing time at the beautiful lake. The park is also home to traditional attractions such as the famous tronquitos, known here as pisciloca. Boats shaped like tree trunks that go up and down steeply like a roller coaster on water rides.

There are also many interesting attractions for extreme lovers. For example there is the piscitornado, an attraction that lasts only 4 seconds and where you can reach a speed of 25mph (40 km/h).

There are also slides like the Megatobogan, which has 27 curves and a length of 504 m.

To measure you against others, there is the attraction “Pisciflash”, where there are 4 lanes, each 100 m long. Whoever arrives first is the winner.

The park also has 5 swimming pools so you can swim with friends and family.

Mechanical attractions:

There are other attractions in the Piscilago. For example, you can take the PisciTranvía through the park and the zoo or enjoy a relaxing ride on the lake on the water bikes.

There is also a children’s park for the little ones. Here you will find traditional attractions such as carousel, dolls house, etc.

Zoo:

You can admire more than 150 species on a large area. You can find lions, pumas, turtles, snakes and marine animals such as rays. Without a doubt, this is the ideal place for nature lovers.

What to do in Kanaloa

The park currently has 7 attractions and caters to all age categories. Both children and seniors (up to 70 years of age) will find appropriate offers.

Swimming pools:

Kanaloa: This pool, which bears the same name as the park, is the quietest of them all. It is intended for people of all ages.

Rokaudal: This pool is a representation of the Cauca River. Here you can visit the most iconic places in the municipality, e.g. a replica of the West Bridge, a national monument. This pool is recommended for people aged 4 to 70 years.

Aquaconda: In this further pool there is a huge anaconda that shoots water jets. Suitable for all age categories.

Ardiluvio: There is a giant squirrel in this pool that shoots jets of water. It is intended for people between the ages of 4 and 70.

Waterslides:

Lagoguna: Surrounded by a pool with a capacity of 250 people, we find the most iconic slide in the park.

The slide is a huge iguana whose imposing tail we can slide down at a speed of 6 mph (10 km / h). The slide is intended for all ages.

Burbuga: The most extreme slide in the park. With a length of 40 meters and a descent of 12 mph (20 km / h) you can feel the adrenaline flowing through your body. This attraction is designed for people between the ages of 12 and 60.

Tobotuga: There is a huge turtle surrounded by a pool with a capacity for 60 people. You can slide down on her tail. This attraction is aimed at people between the ages of 4 and 70.

Aeropark Juan Pablo II

This park is located in the city of Medellin, 15 minutes by car from Olaya Herrera Airport. Currently, this place boasts of being the largest water park in Medellin.

It was opened on the occasion of the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1986.

What can you do at Aeroparque Juan Pablo II?

There are two areas in the park.

Plazoleta de Eventos: On the huge green area with a capacity for about 10,000 people you can rest or relax. As the name suggests, events are held at this location, for example, the square was the venue for the youth concert in 2016.

Aquatic Zone: It is the park’s main attraction as it is home to a multitude of pools and slides.

Swimming pools:

For children: with a depth of 60 cm. This pool is designed for the little ones.

Wave pool: The maximum depth is 2.80 meters and artificial waves are created.

Semi-Olympic: A huge 25-meter long pool designed for swimming enthusiasts. The depth is 1.40 meters.

Waterslides:

Slide pools: 3 fun slides that lead into a pool with a depth of 1.40 meters.

The park can be reached with the following buses: 1,2,300 and C3 002.

The Jaime Duque Park is undoubtedly one of the most iconic places in the whole country. It was founded in 1983 by Jaime Duque Grisales, a former Colombian pilot, who had a dream of creating a place where people could enjoy and learn.

In this park, it is not only possible to find incredible mechanical attractions, but you can also meet and interact with a multitude of animals thanks to the zoo that you can enter. Thanks to the multitude of things that can be done, this place is recommended to come with the family.

What to do in Jaime Duque park?

The place is divided into 5 zones, each with a different objective and unique attractions.

Garden of monuments: In this area, you can find incredible buildings. For example, the monument to God, which is an imposing hand holding the planet, is one of the points where more photographs are taken by tourists.

Other iconic monuments that we can find are the Plaza de Banderas and the Manantial de los centaurs. We can not forget the most iconic site of the park and is a scale reproduction of one of the Seven Wonders of the modern world: the Taj Mahal. At this attraction, there are 3 floors. In the first works The Jaime Duque Grisales Museum, where you can see reproductions of famous works of art. On the second floor, you will enjoy a cyclorama where you can learn about the independence of Colombia. And on the top floor is the world of Doctor Ariel with a vast collection of giant insect figures.

Walk of culture: In this area, you can learn and enjoy. You will find attractions such as the Museum of Man, where you will learn about the creation of galaxies, the appearance of life, human evolution and many other topics.

In another part of this same area, you can appreciate the exhibition of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world where you can learn about them and see some reproductions, such as, for example, the Colossus of Rhodes.

For lovers of Paleontology, here you can find the Garden of the dinosaurs. You will see incredible and huge reproductions of this huge animal. It is possible to enter these figures and enjoy the exhibitions about what were once the most powerful creatures on Earth.

We can not forget one of the most beautiful points of this park and is the attraction called Fantasy The Thousand And One Nights, where you will be transported in a small raft, while you see through figures and sounds the reproduction of this classic tale.

Playground: It is the most traditional site of an amusement park. Here you will find the famous mechanical attractions, for example, bumper cars, slides and another great multitude of machinery that is available for the entertainment of you and your children.

Caribbean port: This area is a reproduction of the Caribbean Sea. You can enjoy the views offered by Kayak Lake and historical objects such as the Córdoba DT-15, which is a ship that fought in the Second World War.

Wakatá BioPark

Undoubtedly one of the best parts of Jaime Duque Park is the Wakatá BioPark. This site is a huge area of 700,000 m2, where you will find a zoo full of animals.

Currently, this space has more than 450 animals, which have been rescued from traffic networks. Other species are in danger of extinction and the BioPark seeks their preservation.

In the zoo, you find animals such as tigers, lions, spectacled bears, a Serpentarium and many other species. It is a wonderful place for nature lovers.

Remember that, although this part is open most of the day, it is best to go early, because the journey is long and even if it is a flat route you have to keep in mind that the last entry is at 5:00 pm.

Panaca is the place par excellence where children can come to interact with animals.  It was founded in 1999 and has since become one of the country’s most iconic spots for families.

What to do in Panaca?

This site is ideal for interacting with a multitude of animals. Currently, the park has several stations with different purposes.

Livestock station: In this space visitors can interact with typical livestock animals. Some species present in this area are lambs, goats, buffaloes and cows to which you can milk.

Station of minor species: Here you will find small and beautiful animals. For example, bunnies, chickens, pigeons, ducks, etc.

Ostriches station: In this area, you can interact with the exotic ostriches, you can also feed them.

Pig farming station: In this area, you will find piglets of all sizes. You’ll get a chance to give milk to the baby pigs.

Feline station: With more than 15 species of cats, this place will allow you to share with these beautiful felines.

Agroecology station: Here you will find different aromatic orchards, which will dazzle your smell. Here they will explain how the essence is extracted from plants.

Canine station: You can interact with more than 48 species of puppies. You can also meet the Colombian Gegar, a species native to this nation.

Sericulture station: Here you will meet the famous Silkworm and learn the process to extract the silk thread.

Equine station: You can interact with more than 150 species of horses, from ponies to the imposing Belgian horses.

The big theme of the park is the dinosaurs. This is due to its location near Villa de Leyva, a place known for constant paleontological discoveries (there is even a museum on the subject on site).

Gondava is a huge life-size dinosaur exhibit. It is specially geared towards children.

What to do in Gondava

In the park, you can discover the dinosaurs on your own. A tour takes 1 to 2 hours. The terrain is flat and the route is not physically demanding.
